I launched a custom satirical votive candle Etsy shop in 2017, creating hilarious and giftable candles that let people "sanctify" their pets, friends, family, and even celebrities. To gain traction, I leveraged Reddit for an initial traffic boost, which quickly led to viral success. The candles were featured on major platforms like Yahoo, The New York Times, Teen Vogue, USA Today, and Wirecutter, even earning a spot on Oprah’s O-List as a top giftable item.
As the brand grew, we expanded into niche offerings like bridesmaid and officiant candles, as well as pet memorialization votives. Over time, we evolved beyond candles, introducing t-shirts, hats, and custom portraiture—always staying true to our humorous, novelty-driven aesthetic.
What started as a solo passion project has become a thriving business, allowing me to develop expertise in product sourcing, design, photography, SEO, marketing, business management, and team leadership. We've also expanded our reach through platforms like Amazon, Instagram, TikTok and a free standing website helping build a dedicated community around our unique and irreverent products.
